Wisdom Will Keep You Safe!

Sometimes it is hard to know the right thing to do. The Bible is like a light in the darkness, showing us how to live. However, in order for the Bible to help us, we must study it.

What is Wisdom?

As we study the Bible, we gain knowledge about God and how He wants us to live. Wisdom is the ability to use that knowledge to make good decisions.

For example, the Bible teaches us that God’s word is truth (John 17:17) and that we should speak truth to one another (Ephesians 4:25).

Imagine you are in a situation where a lie might get you out of trouble. Wisdom steps in and teaches you two things:

1. A lie is never the right choice.
2. God will not be pleased if you are dishonest.

The Trap of “Fake” Fun

The more you know about the Bible, the better prepared you will be for life’s choices. God’s commands are designed to make us better people.

Unfortunately, some people dislike God’s laws because they think God is trying to take away their fun. But the things the world calls “fun”—like using drugs, getting drunk, or looking at inappropriate pictures—are actually harmful. They will hurt you and leave you full of regret.

A Real-Life Example of Regret

I once worked with a man who spent his youth using drugs and getting drunk with his friends. He did this for many years, believing he was living free and having fun.

Later in life, he told me that he would give anything to live his life over again without the drugs and alcohol. Not only did he damage his health, but he was also deeply ashamed of his past and had wasted a fortune on sin.

The book of Proverbs warns us about this exact situation:

Sin will harm our bodies and waste our years. (Proverbs 5:9)

Standing Out for the Right Reasons

Other people might think you are acting strange because you choose to do what is right (1 Peter 4:4). Over time, however, they will see that you made the right choice by serving God and following His laws.

Ultimately, God will judge (evaluate and render a final decision on) how we have lived. Follow God’s commands to enjoy the best possible life on earth and eternal joy in heaven.
