Several years ago, a Christian girl shared an interaction she had with a young man who wanted to date her. He was not a believer, and they had very little in common. She had already turned him down twice.
When she declined to go to a rock concert with him, he asked in mock frustration:
“What do you do for fun? You don’t dance, you don’t drink, you don’t go to concerts. What do you do for fun?”
She replied with a simple, powerful answer:
“For fun, I get up in the morning without feeling embarrassed, ashamed, or guilty about what I did the night before.”
The young man had no response. She was absolutely right. There is nothing fun about living with guilt and regret.
A Different Kind of Joy
Today, that Christian girl is married to a faithful Christian man. They have a daughter and are building a strong, godly home together.
Look at the genuine joy she experiences every day:
- She lives without scars: She does not carry the painful consequences of drugs, alcohol, or fornication (sexual immorality).
- She has peace of mind: She knows her husband won’t be stopping at a bar on his way home from work.
- She feels secure: She knows her daughter will never see her father drunk or using drugs.
- She has trust: When they are apart, she is confident that his Christian character prevents flirting or infidelity (unfaithfulness).
- She has hope: She lives with the comfort that her home is led by a spiritual leader guiding their family toward heaven.
The blessings of living a faithful Christian life are endless.
True fun is living with a clear conscience and a clean heart. What do you do for fun?
