The Power of a Good Example

The Bible teaches that we will be judged by our actions. In the Book of Revelation, we get a glimpse of this final judgment:

”…I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done.” — Revelation 20:12

Our choices and actions carry eternal consequences.

The Scriptures serve as our standard, showing us how to live in a way that pleases God (2 Timothy 2:15; 2 Peter 1:3). The apostle Paul directly connects our behavior to our eternal destiny (Romans 2:6-11).

In fact, Jesus warned that we will even be held accountable for our words:

“I tell you, on the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak…” — Matthew 12:36

Sharing in His Holiness

However, God does not want us to do good simply to pass a test. He calls us to share in His holiness (being set apart for His pure purposes) and to become like His Son.

Jesus lived as a humble servant, changing the lives of everyone He met. When we follow His example, we bring light to the world around us.

Living a holy life is not just about preparing for a grand accounting; it is about enriching our daily lives and the lives of those we encounter.

The Influence of a Young Example

Do not underestimate your influence. When you are young, your choices can inspire both peers and adults.

When you stand against the impure and harmful activities common in youth, you give others the courage to choose a better path (Titus 2:11-14). Your righteousness (living in a way that is right and pleasing to God) encourages older Christians who may feel discouraged by the culture around them.

Living actively for God now prevents a lifetime of regret.

Many adults live with shame over the time they wasted in youthful lusts and squandered opportunities. By choosing a different path today, you build a life you can be proud of for years to come.

Your Creator knows what is best for you. He wants you to enjoy your youth to the absolute fullest, and you will find that true joy by following His commands.
