The Fear of the Lord is the Beginning of Knowledge

Faith & Discipleship

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” — Proverbs 1:7

God is the source of all true knowledge. As the Creator of all things, He understands every detail of His creation. Through His word—the Bible—He teaches us exactly how we ought to live.

The Ultimate Owner’s Manual

Think about how you learn to use a new piece of equipment or a new car. You read the user manual written by the manufacturer because they designed it.

Similarly, the Bible is our Creator’s instruction manual for life. God knows us better than anyone else, and He knows exactly what is best for us.

Some people doubt that God exists, while others simply choose to disobey Him. By turning their backs on God, they reject the ultimate truth about the purpose of the world and our eternal future.

No matter how smart someone is, they will never find true fulfillment without the wisdom that comes from God. As explained in 1 Corinthians 1:18-31, worldly wisdom is foolishness compared to God’s eternal truth—which is the only knowledge that ultimately matters.

God’s Boundless Wisdom

In the final chapters of the book of Job, God speaks of complex natural wonders that scientists have only begun to understand in the last two centuries. He also describes mysteries of the universe that are still far beyond our reach.

It is foolish to think we know more than our Creator. Instead of relying on our own limited understanding, we must humble ourselves and listen to His voice.
