You are invited to a sleepover with some friends from school. After your host’s parents go to bed, one of your friends pulls out a popular movie for everyone to watch.
As the movie starts, you realize it contains content that goes against your values. The characters wear immodest (inappropriate or revealing) clothing, and some scenes show people without clothes. In addition, the characters use bad language and make choices that you know your parents and God do not approve of.
All of your friends are laughing and enjoying the film. You know the movie is bad, but you are not sure how to react without looking foolish.
Points to Discuss
What should you do in this situation? Discuss this scenario with your parents or a friend, and talk about these questions:
- What are your options? Should you leave the room, ask to change the movie, or just close your eyes?
- How can you stand up for your values without sounding preachy or judgmental?
- How can you prepare for situations like this before you go to a friend’s house?
- What does the Bible teach about what we choose to watch and think about?
What do you think is the best way to handle this situation?
