Obedience and Happy Parents

Family & Dating

A wise son makes a glad father,
But a foolish son is the grief of his mother.
Proverbs 10:1

Have you ever wondered why parents want their children to obey? It isn’t because they just enjoy bossing people around. Instead, they are pleased when their children do what is right without having to be told.

The Mark of a Wise Child

A wise son or daughter is someone who understands three things:

  1. What God commands.
  2. What their parents expect.
  3. How to take action and do the right thing on their own.

When children do this, parents feel happy and proud. They are glad to see their children making good choices and behaving maturely.

It also gives them peace of mind around other adults, knowing their children won’t embarrass them with rude behavior.

The Impact of a Foolish Child

On the other hand, a foolish child brings grief (deep sadness and trouble) to their parents.

Parents feel sad when they watch their children make poor choices. They may also feel embarrassed in public because they must constantly correct and scold their children.

Ultimately, you are the only one who can decide whether you will be a wise or foolish child. You must choose to do what is right, even when your parents are not watching.

Choosing obedience doesn’t just make your parents happy—it also makes your own life better. Instead of facing punishment, you will earn respect and trust for your good decisions.
