Make Heaven Your Goal

“I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 3:14

The Apostle Paul told the church in Philippi that he refused to let the mistakes of his past hold him back. Before he became a Christian, Paul actually tried to destroy the church and helped execute many Christians.

Though he felt deep sorrow for his past, he did not let guilt stop him from serving God.

A Life of Non-Stop Service

Paul traveled to many countries to teach the gospel (the good news of salvation through Jesus Christ). Yet, he never felt like his work was finished.

Even after being beaten, shipwrecked, and stoned for his faith, Paul kept pushing forward. He committed to reaching toward his goal of pleasing God and going to heaven. He resolved never to stop working until his life was over and he could finally rest in heaven.

Reaching Your Goal

To make heaven your goal today, you must follow Paul’s example in two key ways:

• Do not dwell on the past: When you make a mistake, ask God for forgiveness and make a firm decision to do better. Do not let guilt paralyze you.
• Never give up: Whether you are young or old, there is valuable work for you to do in God’s kingdom. Keep serving others and sharing His love.

Make heaven your ultimate goal, and press forward every day!
