Lucky for Us!

If you attend public school like me, you are bound to face questions about the origin of the world.

In my Biology class, we recently studied evolution (the scientific theory that all species develop from earlier forms of life over millions of years). It can be hard to stand strong in your faith when facing the arguments that come with this theory.

How can we overcome these challenges as young Christians?

The “History of the World” in Class

The other day, my Biology teacher showed us a video called The History of the World in 2 Hours. In the video, scientists explained their theories, starting with the Big Bang (the scientific theory that the universe began from a single hot, dense point and expanded).

While the video was interesting, we know it is false:

• The Universe: The universe was not created by a random cosmic explosion. It was created by an awesome God (Genesis 1:1).
• Human Life: We did not evolve from animals. God created mankind, making us uniquely in His own image (Genesis 1:27).

Is It Luck or Design?

A common phrase throughout the video was “lucky for us.”

• They claimed it was “lucky for us” that the Earth is positioned at the perfect distance from the sun to sustain life.
• They said it was “lucky for us” that we developed opposable thumbs to grab objects.

This perfect design did not happen by chance. We have an amazing Creator who loved us so much that He designed our world and sent His Son to die for us (John 3:16). That is the only logical explanation for the complexity of our world.

Even though some people refuse to believe this truth, we do not need to worry. As Paul writes in the Bible:

“…so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:10-11)

In the end, our existence isn’t a matter of luck—it is a matter of love and divine purpose.
