If God is For Us, Who Can Oppose Us?

“What shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” — Romans 8:31

This passage teaches us to have confidence that God will always be with us.

When I was little, loud nighttime thunderstorms terrified me. During those storms, I always prayed because I knew God heard me. Even if a storm was severe enough to take my life, I knew God would bring me to His home. In heaven, no storms or evils can ever hurt us.

God is Always Near

God loves His children and will never abandon them. Life brings many challenges:

• Facing bullies at school
• Dealing with sadness and disappointment
• Experiencing deep loneliness

Through it all, God is right there. He gives us strength and listens whenever we open our hearts to Him.

When we pray, we should tell God about everything—our joys, our worries, and our sadness. We should ask Him to help us with our problems and guide others to do what is right. God genuinely wants us to talk with Him and share our feelings. He is always ready to listen and help.

Elisha and the Chariots of Fire

A wonderful example of God’s presence is found in 2 Kings 6:15-17.

The king of Syria was furious because Elisha, a prophet (a spokesman for God), kept warning the king of Israel about Syrian military plans. To stop him, the Syrian king sent a large army at night to surround the city where Elisha was staying.

The next morning, Elisha’s servant woke up and saw Syrian troops, horses, and chariots surrounding the city. Terrified, he ran to Elisha and asked what they should do. Elisha was completely calm.

“Don’t be afraid,” Elisha said. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”

Then Elisha prayed, and God opened the servant’s eyes. Suddenly, the servant saw the hillsides filled with horses and chariots of fire—the great army of God—surrounding Elisha.

Trusting the Invisible Army

Just because we cannot see God’s army does not mean it is not there.

Like Elisha’s servant, we cannot see God with our physical eyes. We might not always understand what He is doing in our lives.

However, we have His absolute promise that He will never leave us or turn His back on us. God does not lie. We can trust that He is always with us, ready to help us face any battle.
