God’s Comfort

One of my favorite songs includes these comforting lyrics:

“Many things about tomorrow I don’t seem to understand. But I know who holds the future and I know who holds my hand.”

There are many frightening things in our world today, from conflicts and sicknesses to financial worries and unpaid bills. It is easy to feel overwhelmed, but we do not have to live in fear.

God is still in complete control of our world.

Sometimes He allows us to go through trials (difficult challenges) to make us stronger. Other times, we go without certain comforts to help us realize how much He has already blessed us. Although we sometimes suffer because of the poor choices of others, God remains our constant source of peace.

Finding Peace in God’s Promises

In Matthew 6, Jesus tells us not to be anxious about our food, clothing, or shelter. While we may not always have the finest things, God promises to provide for our basic needs.

Consider these biblical truths:

• God is sovereign: The book of Daniel teaches that God rules over the kingdoms of men, guiding history according to His purposes.
• God works for our good: The apostle Paul reminds us that all things work together for good for those who love God and are called according to His purpose.

When worry starts to creep in, bring your concerns to God in prayer. Ask Him for strength, help, and the wisdom to understand His will.

Take comfort in knowing that God is actively caring for you. If we are blessed with tomorrow, God will already be there, holding the future. Hold His hand, and let go of your worries about tomorrow.
