For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake (abandon or leave behind) you.” So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” (Hebrews 13:5-6)
The Storms of Life
This powerful passage teaches us to have total confidence that God is always with us.
When I was little, I used to get scared whenever a loud thunderstorm rolled through at night. But I always prayed to God because I knew He heard me. Even if the storm was severe enough to end my life, I knew God would bring me to His heavenly home, where no storms could ever hurt me.
God loves His children and will never abandon them. We all face difficult moments, such as:
- Bullying at school
- Sadness and disappointment when things go wrong
- Feelings of loneliness
In all of these times, God is right beside us to give us strength. He is always ready to listen when we open our hearts to Him in prayer.
Talking Honestly with God
When we pray, we should share everything with God. We can talk to Him about what makes us happy and what makes us sad.
We should ask Him to help us with our problems and to guide others in doing what is right. God wants us to talk with Him and share our deepest feelings. He has the power to help us, and He is always listening.
The Army of Fire
One of my favorite Bible stories is found in 2 Kings 6:15-17.
The king of Syria was furious because the king of Israel kept escaping his military traps. The Syrian king suspected a traitor in his own army. However, one of his officers explained that Elisha, a prophet (a messenger inspired by God), was revealing their plans to Israel.
To capture him, the Syrian king sent a massive army by night to surround the city where Elisha was staying.
The next morning, Elisha’s servant woke up and saw the enemy troops everywhere. Terrified, he ran to Elisha and asked what they should do. But Elisha was completely calm:
“Fear not, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”
Elisha then prayed, and God opened the servant’s eyes. Suddenly, the servant saw the hills filled with God’s great army—horses and chariots of fire surrounding Elisha. Even though the servant could not see them before, they were always there.
Trusting the Promise
Like Elisha’s servant, we cannot see God or know exactly how He is working behind the scenes. However, we have His absolute promise that He will never leave us or turn His back on us.
God does not lie, so we can completely trust that He is always with us, ready to help.
