Jack is a boy at your school who doesn’t have many friends. He seems like a nice guy, but he is a little overweight and isn’t very good at playing baseball.
He also has a noticeable scar on his right cheek from a bike wreck he had years ago. Because of this scar, some kids at school call him “Scarface”—a nickname he obviously dislikes.
The Situation
You know Jack well because he goes to the same church as you and has been your friend for years. Recently, some of your school friends noticed you talking to him and asked:
“Why are you hanging around with Scarface?”
You also just found out that these kids are planning to embarrass Jack during lunch today.
