Don't Be Bossy or Rude

“Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.” — Philippians 2:3

Have you ever met someone who always insists on having things done their way? Most of us do not enjoy being around bossy or rude people.

It is very difficult to work or play together when someone refuses to listen to others. To build healthy relationships, we must learn to let others go first and occasionally do what they want to do.

Developing a Lowly Mind

The apostle Paul tells us to develop a “lowly mind” (an attitude of humility and selflessness). This is the same mindset that Jesus demonstrated.

Even though Jesus is the Son of God, He spent His earthly life serving others. When He died on the cross, He proved that He cared more about our salvation than His own comfort or survival.

Having a lowly mind does not mean you have a low opinion of yourself. Instead, it means you do not view yourself as superior to others. This attitude enables you to show kindness to everyone, regardless of their popularity, wealth, or background.

Esteeming Others

To esteem (value or respect highly) others means recognizing that every person is valuable.

• You do not need to think of yourself as worthless. You are special to God and to those who love you.
• At the same time, you must remember that others are just as special.
• God created every person, and He desires to save them just as much as He desires to save you.

Make it a daily habit to listen, share, and put others first.
