Contentment is a Prayer of Thankfulness

Faith & DiscipleshipWork, Money & Future

Our contentment (being satisfied and peaceful with what we have) tells God thank you for taking care of our needs and overfilling our cup. When we are content, we tell Him that we are enough with Him. We show that we are satisfied with how “all things work together for good” in our lives (Romans 8:28).

Loving What We Have

We should not sulk or whine about what others have, nor live in discontent because of their blessings. After all, we are blessed with a loving Father who promises to care for us. The Bible instructs:

“Let your conduct be without covetousness [greed or a strong desire for what belongs to others]; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’” — Hebrews 13:5

Even though we want to grow and improve our skills to serve God, we should not be unhappy with our lives right now. Instead of searching for meaning in material things, we can find true peace:

“…godliness [living a life that honors and pleases God] with contentment is great gain.” — 1 Timothy 6:6

A content Christian is a living prayer of thankfulness. By being content, we thank God for satisfying our deepest needs far beyond our ability to measure.
