A Mind Like Christ

Faith & Discipleship How can I develop a mind that is like Christ?

Our actions always follow our thoughts. If we want to behave like Christ, we must first learn to think like Christ.

Consider how the Bible emphasizes the power of the mind:

  • Control your thoughts: We must bring every thought into captivity to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5).
  • Watch your heart: The human heart is the ultimate source of all our actions (Mark 7:20-23).
  • Avoid foolish thinking: Terrible abominations (extremely hateful or disgusting sins) begin with evil and futile thoughts (Romans 1:21-22).
  • Focus on eternity: We must set our minds on things above, not on earthly things (Colossians 3:1-3).

The Worldly Mind

The worldly mind dwells on empty, meaningless, and degrading thoughts. This way of thinking often leads to cruelty, indifference toward others, and sin.

A worldly mindset focuses entirely on the present life and satisfying selfish desires. It is constantly trained by worldly influences, such as television, movies, social media, music, and popular culture.

The Mind of Christ

In contrast, the mind of Christ is shaped by the Word of God. Developing this mindset requires a conscious decision to align our thoughts with Jesus.

As our minds are transformed, we naturally begin to dwell on godly things and make choices based on Christ’s doctrine (divinely revealed teachings). A Christ-like mind focuses on:

  • Building a deep, personal relationship with God the Father.
  • Living a pure and holy life.
  • Valuing and serving others above ourselves.

Finding Peace through Discipline

Unlike the chaotic and noisy thoughts of the world, a Christ-like mind brings deep peace. Instead of demanding to be served, it looks for opportunities to serve others. It is not ruled by temporary feelings or passions, but by purposeful direction and spiritual discipline.

Developing a mind like Christ is a lifelong process. However, the positive changes in your attitude, behavior, and peace of mind are absolutely worth the effort.
