Who are the most important people in your life?
Even if you have hundreds of social media friends and acquaintances, only a few people truly stand out. Some of them you might not know very well, yet they made a lasting impact on you. Others are close friends with whom you share a deep, meaningful bond.
What do these people have in common? Their lives had meaning and value to you.
The Legacy of Brother Pope
When I was a boy, there was an elderly man in our church named Brother Pope. He sat on the front row at every single service.
He was a frail man who wore a suit that seemed a little too large for him. His smiling face was etched with the lines of a hard life spent working as a coal miner.
No matter what, his large Bible was always open on his lap, and he followed the preacher’s sermon carefully. Unless he was severely ill, he was in his seat.
Brother Pope passed away decades ago, but I still remember him. I remember his kindness, his dedication, and his faithfulness.
Whenever I feel like skipping church because I am a little tired or slightly under the weather, I think of his diligence (steady, earnest effort). His example motivates me to stop complaining and go to worship.
The Power of Encouragement
There are other people in my life who could call me at any hour of the day or night, and I would drop everything to help them. Why? Because they stood by me during a critical time in my life.
They encouraged me and offered help when I needed it most. Their kindness is not forgotten.
When we live a life of service, we build deep, unbreakable bonds with others.
We make the world a better place simply by being in it. We bring glory to Christ by doing what He would do in our place.
God remembers our service, but the people whose lives we touch will remember us too—long after we are gone.
When we live a life that is cherished by God and others, we will find that we cherish it ourselves, too.
