5 Reasons I Don't Get Freaked Out During an Election Year

An election year can bring a lot of noise, division, and anxiety. However, as a Christian, we do not need to let the political chaos freak us out.

Here are five reasons why I choose to stay calm during election season:

1. God is Ultimately in Control

God rules in the affairs of mankind. While I exercise my right to vote, I trust that God is the ultimate decision-maker over who leads.

2. My True Citizenship is in Heaven

This world is not my permanent home. I am merely sojourning (traveling as a temporary resident) through this life.

Earthly kingdoms rise and fall like the tides. My focus is on a heavenly city that has eternal foundations—built and designed by God Himself.

3. Our Country Has Built-In Balances

Our founding fathers designed a system with a balance of power. No single person can destroy this country in just a few years. Any major shift takes a collective, group effort.

4. I Choose Prayer Over Obsession

I would rather spend an hour in prayer or Bible study than listen to biased talk radio or argue about passing political fads. I used to be a political junkie and news addict, but I realized it didn’t change anything.

Today, I choose to stay informed, but not obsessed.

5. Laws Can’t Change Human Hearts

Legislation (the process of making laws) can criminalize bad behavior, but it cannot create morality.

Only the gospel (the good news of Jesus Christ) has the power to transform a wretched (miserable or sinful) person into a righteous, loving individual. True reform always begins from within.
